A volcanic stone gate is also called a stone entrance. It is a natural gate-like feature composed of a pair of cliffs. This term was also proposed by Xu Xiake during his tour of Yandangshan. This feature forms when overlapping screen-like peaks collapse and disintegrate along joints. The Xiansheng Gate of Yandangshan is a typical example; it is 200 m high, and the margins are 6–16 m apart. A ‘one line sky’ landform is located in front of it, and when looking up from inside the gate, the sky is nearly obscured by the cliffs (Fig. 43).
