Sangha Trinational Site

This site is located at the junction of Cameroon, the Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic in the northwestern Congo Basin. It consists of three adjacent national parks with a total area of 7,500 km². Most of the site has not yet been affected by human activities. It is characterised by a rich and diverse wet tropical rainforest ecosystem. There is a wide range of animals and plants, including the Nile crocodile and the giant carnivorous tiger fish. The forests provide a habitat for herbaceous plants. The Sanga River Basin also hosts a large population of forest elephants, extremely endangered western lowland gorillas, and endangered chimpanzees. The environment has largely allowed the continuation of the ecosystems and species evolution processes and has preserved rich biodiversity features, including numerous endangered animal populations.
