Breccia is a coarse sedimentary clastic rock cemented with angular gravel particles larger than 2 mm that have not been polished. The clastic materials that make up breccia generally have not been transported at all, or have only been moved for a short distance. The gravel is characterised by different sizes and shapes, low roundness and angular shapes. Based on the causes of formation, breccias can be divided into karst breccia, volcanic breccia, glacial breccia, fault breccia, diagenetic breccia and epigenetic breccia. Breccia is also useful for analysing palaeogeographical environments, tectonic movements and mineral ore distributions (Fig. 25).
