Huainan Datong National Mining Park, Anhui

This park is located in Huainan City in northern Anhui Province and has a planned area of approximately 22.20 km². It was designated as a national mining park in 2010. The Datong Coal Mine is the place where the Huainan coal originates. Records indicate that coal mining occurred as early as the Wanli Regime in the Ming Dynasty (1573–1620). The mine was established for exploitation in 1903 and was shut down in the late 1970s due to resource exhaustion, and the shaft mouth, headframe, gangue heaps and other features of mining activity remain. The ‘Wanren pit’ (a pit that can hold 10,000 people), water dungeon, post-war blockhouses and Yaoshen Temple, which are related to the mining activity, are evidence of the Japanese invasion of China. The park is divided into four areas: a mining heritage conservation area, patriotism education area, ecological restoration area and coal museum.
