Anterior Granulomatous Uveitis: Differential Diagnosis

Abstract

Uveitis is broadly classified into anterior, intermediate, posterior, and panuveitis based on the anatomical involvement of the eye. In particular, anterior uveitis is the most common ocular inflammation which is further categorized into granulomatous and non-granulomatous type of uveitis. History of the patient, clinical signs, symptoms, and presence of any associated systemic illness help in clinching the diagnosis of the disease. Granulomatous anterior uveitis is characterized by long-standing inflammation with a high risk of visual morbidity. With appropriate management, anterior uveitis is a relatively benign disease but can lead to severe visual loss if untreated. The main presenting clinical features are ocular pain, circum-limbal congestion, diminution of vision, photophobia, and itching. This chapter highlights various causes of granulomatous anterior uveitis and their management.
