Handbook of Climate Change Resilience

Abstract

Climate change is one of the global issues which we must of necessity tackle with alacrity in order to prevent global warming too unbearable for the survival of mankind. While the industrialized countries of the world, the major contributors to climate change, have the capacity to respond to the impact of climate change, most developing countries like Nigeria do not have sufficient adaptive capacity to climate change and global warming. They, therefore, need assistance from developed countries for climate change adaptation. Climate change education is therefore vital in every community in order to prepare us for climate change impacts and to learn how to adapt effectively. This chapter closely examines the impacts of climate change in Nigeria and most especially in the agricultural sector. It also explores the need to educate farmers in rural areas on climate change adaptation and the tools which can be creatively used for climate change education for farmers in rural areas in Nigeria to enable them to adapt effectively for sustainability.
