Abstract

Crisis intervention is getting more and more attention after the trauma events happened in China, especially after Sichuan 5.12 earthquake. Crisis intervention is a short and effective help for individuals who were in a state of psychological imbalance after trauma. If the crisis intervention is not provided to survivors effectively after the occurrence of traumatic events, it may lead to psychological crisis and trauma-related diseases, such as acute stress disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This chapter introduces the polices and laws, public services, and prevention system of crisis intervention in China. Then, the clinical research of psychological crisis intervention and PTSD-related studies in China are also introduced. Compared with foreign countries, crisis intervention in mainland China relies more on the guidance of national governments at different levels, which can unify allocation of resources, and better integrate the professional forces and nongovernmental organizations. Psychological first aid, cognitive behavioral therapy, critical incident stress debriefing, eye movement desensitization, and reprocessing technology have been applied to a certain extent in crisis intervention and the importance of integrating cultural factors has been taken into account in China.
