Definition

Migration is the movement of a person or group of persons either across an international border or within a state, on a temporary or permanent basis, primarily to ameliorate their lives by finding work or in some cases for education, family reunion, or other reasons (UNCHR 2016).

Introduction

People often migrate for numerous reasons, such as seeking for better jobs, or education, or following family members who have migrated (Durmaz and Kalca 2013). In other words, migration is “an expression of the human aspiration for dignity, security and an optimum future”.

Today, international migration, indisputably, is a crucial component of neoliberal globalization and is associated with regional and national economies of inequality (Ackerman et al. 2000; Milanovic 2016; Likic-Brboric 2018).
