Definition
How individuals perceive and makes meaning of sustainability, including their knowledge and beliefs, is significantly shaped by worldview and psychological development. Research in adult developmental psychology applied to sustainability education and leadership development supports knowledge and skill development for sustainability educators and change agents.

Sustainability, defined as the reciprocal flourishing of human and planetary systems, calls for change in all dimensions of society – changes in individual and collective behaviors, systems, culture, and worldviews, knowledge, and beliefs.
