In the 29 short years of her life, Anne Brontë produced a substantial volume of work: a corpus of poems and two published novels. It is a remarkable accomplishment, made more significant by the increasing maturity and sophistication of the work as Brontë hones her themes, style, structure, and narrative technique. And over the past several decades, growing critical appreciation of Brontë’s artistry and the radical, often feminist, subject matter she engages has enabled Anne Brontë to emerge from the shadow of her sisters, Charlotte and Emily, as a major novelist in her own right.
