About the editor
Prof. Suojiang Zhang is Director General of the Institute of Process Engineering (IPE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS); Member of CAS; Director of Beijing Key Laboratory of Ionic Liquids Clean Process; Vice-Chairman of the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China (CIESC) and Director of the Ionic Liquid Professional Committee of CIESC; Dean of College of Chemical Engineering, University of CAS; and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Prof. Zhang received his Ph.D. degree from Zhejiang University and later joined Beijing University of Chemical Technology as a postdoctoral fellow in 1994. In 1995, he was awarded a Japanese Ministry of Education Scholarship to work with Prof. Kazuo Kojima at Nihon University. In 1997, he joined Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation of Japan as a senior scientist. In 2001, he was selected as “Hundred Talents Program of CAS” and joined IPE, CAS, and founded a research group focusing on ionic liquids (ILs) and green processes. In 2011, he established the Beijing Key Laboratory of Ionic Liquids Clean Process and served as the director. In 2012, he founded the Ionic Liquid Professional Committee of CIESC and served as the first Committee Chairman. Subsequently, he promoted the establishment of the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of CAS in 2017, and the Innovation Academy for Green Manufacture, CAS, in 2019.
Prof. Zhang has been committed to ionic liquids (ILs) and green processes, closely integrating fundamental research of ILs with industrial applications. He has authored 11 scientific books and about 600 scientific papers with over 34,000 citations and an H-index of 92. He has been named in the WoS Highly Cited Researchers Report since 2016. He has invented more than 10 green technologies and owns 200 patents. He was awarded the second prize of the National Natural Science Award of China in 2010 and subsequently elected as a Member of CAS in 2015. He won the CAS S&T for DevelopmentAward in 2017 and the Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Progress Award in 2020. He also won the CCS-BASF Youth Knowledge Innovation Award, the Beijing Technology Invention Award, the Hou Debang Chemical Technology Achievement Award, and the Leadership Award for Innovations in Green Process Engineering by AIChE Green Engineering Division in 2017.
Prof. Zhang is passionate about the promotion and dissemination of scienti fic knowledge and has founded two international academic journals, Green Energy & Environment (GEE) in 2016 and Green Chemical Engineering (GreenChE) in 2020. He initiated the Asia-Paci fic Conference on Ionic Liquids and Green Process (APCIL) and the National Conference on Ionic Liquids, which have become a series of reputational academic events in the field of ILs in China as well as worldwide.
