Reviews
From the reviews:
"This is a collection of formulas for applied scientists and industrial engineers working in the most important subfields of applied acoustics. It permits an easy and rapid access to searched results. … The book is very well written and excellently organized; the size of letters permits an easy reading. … On balance, this is an excellent reference tool, a real ‘instrument de travail’ in acoustics, whose edition will be welcome by the researchers in the field." (Dumitru Stanomir, Zentralblatt MATH, Vol. 1060, 2005)
"This collection of formulas has been written by applied scientists and industrial engineers for design professionals and students who work in engineering acoustics. … It provides easy and rapid access to profound and comprehensive information. … In addition to formulas, useful principles and computational procedures are given." (Applied Mechanics Reviews, Vol. 56 (1), 2003)
From the reviews of the second edition
"In 17 chapters the book cover numerous areas of classical contemporary acoustics … . Each chapter concludes with … extensive reference list. … the book is a ‘must’ for all those working with or in engineering acoustics … ." (Heinrich A. Metzen, Noise Control Engineering Journal, Vol. 57 (1), 2009)

About the editor
Professor Dr. F. P. Mechel, born in 1930 in Blickweiler, Germany, studied Applied Physics in Mainz, Heidelberg, and Goettingen. After his doctoral thesis (1959) he worked for many years as a researcher, first in Applied Physics and later in Acoustics. In 1971 he became a professor at Saarland University. At the same time he was head of the R&D department of a major corporation. In 1977 he became the Head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics in Stuttgart, where he retired in 1990. Since 1990 Professor Mechel has been an active hobby scientist.
F. P. Mechel is author of numerous articles, six books as well as co-author and co-editor of four handbooks on Acoustics.
