Abstract

Lipoprotein (a) [Lp (a)] is a lipoprotein first discovered by Kåre Berg in 1963 in an attempt to study variants of β lipoproteins. (1). In 1973, Berg et al. discovered that Lp (a) correlated with coronary heart disease (CHD) in a case control study (2). Today, Lp (a) is considered by most as an independent risk factor in CHD. The mechanism by which it is atherogenic is not fully understood.
