Abstract

Two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2-DE) provides not only the ability to resolve and quantify thousands of proteins, but it also gives those in research and industry the ability to monitor in-process protein purification, quickly and easily N. Bizios, unpublished date, (AGI Dermatics). 2-DE is also used to identify variability in protein expression in a variety of cell lines (2,3). It is known that many parameters and laboratory conditions can influence the resolution of proteins on 2-DE, such as the pH range of carrier ampholytes used, the quality of reagents and equipment used, temperature, voltage, and the skill of the researcher or technician.
