ELISA

Part of the book series: Methods in Molecular Biology™ ((MIMB,volume 42))

Abstract

This chapter gives general information on common practical features of the ELISA, featuring the main elements of:

  1. 1.

The adsorption of antigen or antibody to the plastic solid-phase.

  2. 2.

The addition of the test sample and subsequent reagents.

  3. 3.

    The incubation of reactants.

  4. 4.

The separation of bound and free reactants by washing.

  5. 5.

    The addition of enzyme-labeled reagent.

  6. 6.

The addition of enzyme detection system (color development).

  7. 7.

The visual or spectrophotometric reading of the assay.
