Abstract

The evaluation of protein expression and modifications following global cerebral ischemia has led to better characterization of selectively vulnerable neuronal populations and exploration of potential targets for neuroprotection. The absence or decrease of protein product must also be validated for knockdown or knockout models in order to ensure efficacy of gene silencing. Thus, two basic approaches for protein assessments (western blotting and immunohistochemistry) used in global cerebral ischemic models are presented here to serve as the basis of further experimental designs.
