Rabbits, like humans, are perinatal brain developers. The model of uterine ischemia mimics acute placental insufficiency states in humans such as placental abruption. A detailed description of the fetal model is presented. Following fetal hypoxia-ischemia, movement disorders are observed in postnatal rabbit kits akin to those observed in cerebral palsy in humans.
