Characterization of Plant Viruses

Part of the book series: Springer Protocols Handbooks ((SPH))

Abstract

Mealybugs are white, soft-bodied, cottony-looking insects equipped with piercing/sucking mouth parts under the order hemiptera. They are like plant scale insects and aphids in sucking the fluids from leaves and stems from the plants for the requirement of essential nutrients. Mealybugs are sluggish insects that transmit viruses in semi-persistent manner. They are known to transmit ampelo, badna and clostero genera of plant viruses.
