Carbon Neutrality - Special Issue: Decarbonization and CCUS

Please find the poster here with more information.

1. Overview

Fossil fuels have traditionally been the main source of energy consumption worldwide. In 2022, fossil fuels accounted for 75% of the global total primary energy supply among various sources, resulting in the largest amount of carbon emissions. To date, more than 70% of the global economy has pledged carbon neutrality or net-zero emissions. As the energy sector is the main source of greenhouse gas emissions, the world is accelerating technological innovation and expanding renewable capacities to significantly increase the proportion of renewable and clean energy in future energy supplies along with solutions to efficiently recover it. However, the prospect of eliminating fossil fuels from the energy mix is unlikely to become a reality in the short term. Thus, on the journey toward carbon neutrality, early-stage decarbonization of fossil fuels, adoption of energy-saving technologies, and implementation of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) are crucial. Achieving carbon neutrality depends not only on scaling up non-fossil energy sources but also on effectively managing carbon dioxide emissions from industries like steel, cement, and chemicals, as well as from fossil fuel combustion such as in the heating sector. Currently, a number of decarbonization solutions in synergy and CCUS are believed to be an effective means of quickly neutralizing carbon dioxide emissions.

2. Topic areas

This special issue of Carbon Neutrality invites authors to submit Reviews, Original articles, Comments, Short communications, Perspectives that focus on Decarbonization and CCUS.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Decarbonization techniques for fossil fuels
  • Energy system optimization
  • Innovative clean energy technologies
  • Advanced energy-saving solutions
  • CCUS applications in the energy sector

3. Submission process

Special issue articles undergo the same rigorous review process as regular Carbon Neutrality articles.

Articles should be submitted using our online submission system (www.editorialmanager.com/lowc/default.aspx). On the submission site, select this special issue in the "Additional Information" section.

4. Deadline for submissions

Deadline for manuscript submission is 31st Dec 2024. Submissions earlier than this date are encouraged. Carbon Neutrality will publish this focus collection incrementally. This means that the articles submitted early will be published as soon as they are accepted and prepared for publication, without being delayed waiting for other papers in the collection.
