Springer is seeking applications and nominations for the position of Editor-in-Chief of Child’s Nervous System.
Child’s Nervous System is a very established journal in the field of pediatric neurosurgery. Publishing evidence-based medicine research articles and reviews, as well as focusing on case reports, the journal can look back on more than 50 years of publishing experience. The journal is a contemporary, state-of-the-art journal in the neurosurgical field with a recognized standing and an international orientation, represented by its international readership. Also, it is the publishing organ of the International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery (ISPN) and the European Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery (ESPN). Currently, it has an Impact Factor of 1.3, and is owned and published by Springer Verlag, part of Springer Nature.
The Editor-in-Chief will be responsible for continuing to develop and improve the quality of Child’s Nervous System in the future years. They will deliver strategic direction to the journal and provide guidance and recommendations for new initiatives. Responsibilities include:
Editorial:
- With administrative assistance from the Publisher’s editorial office support staff, manage the peer review of and make final decisions on the approximately 900 manuscripts submitted to the journal annually (with the exception of articles in which a conflict of interest exists).
- Appoint and lead a group of Associate Editors, ensuring that the Journal maintains high standards for the refereeing and acceptance of articles.
- Nominate, appoint, and secure the services of an expert, internationally recognized Editorial Board for the Journal.
- Adhere to standards of editorial good practice, as defined in the Publisher's Code of Conduct for Editors-in-Chief of Journals.
- Ensure all ethical issues relating to the Journal are resolved in line with good practice and the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines.
Strategy
- Oversee the strategic commissioning of content for the Journal, ensuring a regular pipeline of high-quality review and editorial content.
- Advise on hot topics for timely thematic series, selecting suitable experts to act as guest editors.
- Work collaboratively with the Publisher to ensure continuous growth of the journal, whilst upholding high scientific quality and good turnaround times.
- Work with the Publisher to build collaborative partnerships with external organisations such as relevant funders, patient organisations, and early career groups.
- Provide guidance and recommendations for new initiatives to enhance the author and reader experience.
The ideal candidate should have a vision of how to grow and develop the journal in the international surgical community, and a clear idea of the pragmatic issues involved in accomplishing this mission. Essential qualifications include a record of significant scholarly achievement at an international level, including significant personal experience in writing scientific papers, publishing scientific works, and serving as a peer reviewer or Editorial Board member for a scientific publication. Other essential qualifications include strong administrative and editorial skills; understanding of the international community of scholars and practitioners; and strong interpersonal skills.
The initial term of service for this position is from January 1st , 2025 through December 31st , 2027. The Editor-in-Chief will receive an editorial stipend as compensation.
