Zeitschrift für Bildungsforschung - About the Society
The Austrian Society for Research and Development in Education (ÖFEB) is a non-partisan, supra-regional & non-profit association that addresses all researchers, teachers and developers in education. It has been founded in 2000. Its name signifies a broader understanding of educational research by including educational researchers with a disciplinary background in sociology, psychology, economics, history and others. The connection to “research and development” also builds bridges to applied research and research-led development. Over 500 members (2017) are organised in several sections:
- Vocational and adult education
- Elementary education
- Empirical pedagogical research
- Teacher education and teacher education research
- Media education
- School research and school development
- Social pedagogy
The goals of the ÖFEB are:
- To promote educational research, development and teaching in Austria and to advance a humane and democratic education system through quality research and teaching.
- To cooperate with researchers and practitioners in educational research and development in Austria across different disciplines, research methodological approaches and institutions
- To increase the quantity and quality of educational research and development
- To promote early career researchers in educational research in the permanent working group “Emerging Researchers”
- To promote the cooperation between educational research, educational practice, educational administration and educational policy
- To cooperate with policy makers and research funders
- To represent the interests of educational researchers vis-à-vis educational policy makers, educational administrators and research funders
- To disseminate the results of educational research
- To increase public information about the methods and results of educational research
- To stimulate the exchange with international educational researchers
The ÖFEB offers its members:
- the organisation of national and international conferences, seminars and lectures
- the promotion of specialised publications, e.g. through the book series of the ÖFEB
- the publication of the Zeitschrift für Bildungsforschung/Journal of Educational Research (ZBF), which all members of the ÖFEB receive
- free access to the European Educational Research Journal (EERJ)
- discounted journal subscriptions for members
- initiatives of continuing education and promotion of early career researchers
- the promotion of female researchers in education
- statements on issues of educational policy, educational practice and research funding
- the development and promotion of standards for educational research and development
- platform for project placement and networking opportunities
