Mobile Networks and Applications - Call for Papers: Towards 6G networks: technologies, services and applications
Overview:
Today, we have witnessed the transformation of 5G networks in every aspect of human life and in all activities of industry and academy sectors. 5G networks have placed a strong foundation for the development of economics and society. However, how can we expect from 5G networks for the year 2030 and beyond when the way we live, work, learn, and stay healthy is far from what provided by wireless communications with enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC), massive machine type of communication (mMTC), etc. The next-generation 6G networks will serve by not only redefining the eMBB, URLLC, and mMTC, by eMBB+, URLLC+, and mMTC+, but also being integrated with sensing and AI technologies. This way can flourish in the era of 6G in which the physical, cyber, and biological worlds are fully connected throughout a distributed neural network of sensed and intelligent things.
It is certain that 6G networks will be equipped with various and disruptive capabilities from communication, sensing, computing, to intelligence. However, there will have a set of challenges for 6G networks in many issues including technologies, services, to applications based on eMBB+, URLLC+, mMTC+, sensing and AI, as well as other advanced solutions to new spectrum (THz bands), extreme massive connectivity (Tbit/s peak rate, 10–100 Gbit/s experienced rate, sub-millisecond level latency, and a tenfold density increase compared to 5G, etc.), and new network architecture (low- or very low-earth orbit satellites, pillars of 6G, digital twins). And thus, there is an urgent need for conducting state-of-the-art research towards the technologies, services and applications of 6G networks. To overcome the challenges and requirements of 6G networks, this special issue focuses on (but are not restricted to) the following topics.
