- Publishing model:
- Open access
The Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine is an open access journal publishing refereed papers providing significant progress in the application of biomaterials and tissue engineering constructs as medical or dental implants, prostheses and devices. More information about open access publishing in the journal can be found at https://www.springer.com/journal/10856/updates/18557564. Coverage spans a wide range of topics from basic science to clinical applications, around the theme of materials in medicine and dentistry. The central element is the development of synthetic and natural materials used in orthopaedic, maxillofacial, cardiovascular, neurological, ophthalmic and dental applications. Special biomedical topics include biomaterial synthesis and characterisation, biocompatibility studies, nanomedicine, tissue engineering constructs and cell substrates, regenerative medicine, computer modelling and other advanced experimental methodologies. The journal uses single-blind peer review.
We invite authors to submit to our new topical collection that is open for submissions until 31 August 2024.

Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine extends congratulations to the first-ever winner of the Early Career Researcher Prize, Dr. Kanae Yamada of Gunma University. The prize was awarded to Dr. Yamada in consideration of the following 2021 article: “In vitro assessment of antitumor immune responses using tumor antigen proteins produced by transgenic silkworms.” Check out our interview with Dr. Yamada here.
We recently interviewed members of our new Board of Assistant Editors. Read the full update to learn more about their backgrounds, recent projects, why they joined JMSM, and recommended papers in the journal.
