Biomedical Microdevices - Call for Papers: Biomedical RNA Technologies and Nanotherapeutics
February 2022
RNA nanovaccines against COVID-19 mark the beginning of a technological revolution that will transform the way we treat disease and restore health. Expanding beyond the fields of infectious diseases, RNA nanotherapeutics, have significant promise in the treatment of cardiovascular or neurodegenerative diseases and cancer, among others. mRNA, Antisense oligonucleotides, small interfering RNAs, and microRNAs can be designed to modulate gene expression and protein synthesis, offering virtually limitless opportunities in the way we treat prevent and treat diseases.
Here, micro- and nanotechnologies and devices play a fundamental role in supporting molecule stability, achieve specific targeting, enhance delivery, while minimizing adverse effects and immunogenicity of treatment. Additionally, microfluidics systems and devices offer enhanced capabilities for the production of RNA nanoparticles and enhancement of RNA transfection.
This special issue focuses on the biomedical technological at the forefront in this exciting field, which will likely have a substantial impact on the future of medicine.
