Animal Cognition - Morris Animal Foundation Funding Opportunity for Equine Behavior/Welfare/Cognition Research

Morris Animal Foundation is pleased to invest in equine behavior and welfare research, including cognitive research, through an annual call for research proposals aimed at improving the lives of horses through an enhanced understanding of behavioral health and welfare. Researchers interested in applying for a grant can sign up for RFP updates, to be notified when the equine behavior/welfare RFP is issued.

The Foundation is specifically interested in research involving cognition; learning; stereotypies; separation anxiety; affiliative behavior toward humans; the effects of equine temperament on welfare; and equine psychopharmacology. Projects focusing solely on behavioral measurements for non-behavioral conditions will not be accepted.

This annual request for proposals is part of the Foundation’s Donor-Inspired Study program, which allows individual donors to directly support a research topic for which they have a passion, and for which there is a pressing need. Since 2020, this call has been made possible by the generous support of Dr. Wendy Koch, a veterinarian who has supported the Foundation for 33 years. Dr. Koch has also set up a fundraiser on Morris Animal Foundation’s peer-to-peer fundraising platform, where she hopes to raise additional funding for equine behavior/welfare studies.
