Abstract
The numerical modeling results on scouring in uniform sediments downstream of an apron due to a submerged horizontal jet issuing from a sluice opening are presented in this paper. The maximum depths of scour and scour profiles are studied with Euler–Euler numerical model. OpenFOAM platform is used for sediment transport numerical model, and some alterations are introduced in OpenFOAM solver, basically twoPhaseEulerFoam solver which is used in this study. In this platform, fluid flow equations are solved with finite volume method. For turbulence modeling, k–ε model has been used. Results show that Euler–Euler model is appropriate for scouring modeling and comparisons with Euler–Lagrange model show that present model has better performance and needs less time for calculating maximum scour depth. Root mean square error of 0.38 was achieved for maximum scour depth prediction. Sensitivity analysis shows the importance of soil viscosity value, drag and lift coefficients in predicting the scour depth in the presented modeling approach.
