Abstract
Phenolic compounds found in the human diet reveal a broad spectrum of biological activities. The present work describes the quantitative analysis of phenolic compounds in Coriandrum sativum vulgare (Csv) and Coriandrum sativum microcarpum (Csm) by HPLC–DAD analyses. The methanolic extracts of both varieties were analyzed by reverse phase HPLC. The method was validated in terms of linearity, precision, accuracy, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ) and repeatability, as well. The coefficient of determination (R2) was in the range of 0.9986–0.9993. The LOD and LOQ ranged from 1.13–1.46 to 3.42–4.32 mg/kg, respectively. The total phenolic contents of both varieties were also presented using Folin–Ciocalteu method with gallic acid equivalent in mg g−1 dried weight. Quercetin-3-β-D glucoside (Q3GD) (103.81 \(\pm \) 4.76 mg kg−1) and quercetin 3-O-glucuronide (Q3GND) (235.69 \(\pm \) 1.52 mg kg−1) were found in Csv as major products and neochlorogenic acid (NCA) (52.48 \(\pm \) 1.17 mg kg−1) was the next most abundant product. In addition, the chief products in Csm were Q3GD and Q3GND as a quantity of 49.75 \(\pm \) 3.81 mg kg−1and 107.21 \(\pm \) 9.36 mg kg−1respectively. The total phenolic content of Csv and Csm was found as 1005.80 \(\pm \) 88.17 µgg−1 and 1177.32 \(\pm \) 87.93 µgg−1 respectively.
