Abstract

Biomass gasification is one of the prominent methods of utilizing biomass for energy generation. There is a huge potential for biomass utilization because of its renewable nature. Also there are different biomass feedstock materials available in nature. These feedstock materials can be analysed in the gasifiers for their efficacy. Downdraft gasifiers are the most commonly used gasifiers for biomass gasification. Hence, different types of feedstock materials can be tested and analysed in downdraft gasifier. The effect of feedstock materials with various parameters such as its composition, equivalence ratio, feed rate, pellet size on high heating value (calorific value), produced gas composition, tar content and cold gas efficiency as well as the effect of different gasifying agents used for combustion in gasifier can be studied for analysing the biomass gasification process. In this review paper, the review of gasification process with different types of biomass feedstock materials used in the downdraft gasifiers with reference to the parametric study mentioned above is carried out.
