Abstract
We report the case of a 51-year-old male patient with an oesophageal leiomyoma measuring 7 cm in diameter, focusing on operative management by open surgery. In this study, we present our experience using open surgery in leiomyoma that is the most common benign tumour of the oesophagus. Occurring mainly in middle age, their incidence in men is twice as frequent. The most common symptoms are dysphagia and epigastric pain, although 50% of patients remain asymptomatic and the tumour is sometimes discovered incidentally. Our male patient was admitted to our clinic without any symptoms. There was no nausea, vomiting, or weight loss. The results of a physical examination and standard laboratory tests were normal.
