Abstract
Musa itinerans (Zingiberales: Musaceae) is one of the most important wild banana species occurred in tropical and subtropical regions of Southeast Asia. Here we first report the complete chloroplast genome sequence of M. itinerans using next-generation sequencing technology. The complete chloroplast genome of M. itinerans is 168,985 bp long, containing a pair of inverted repeat regions of 34,914 bp, which were separated by a large single copy region of 87,828 bp and a small single copy region of 11,329 bp. The genome contains 113 unique genes, including 79 protein-coding genes, 30 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and four ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes. Maximum likelihood phylogenetic analysis based on chloroplast genome sequences indicates that M. itinerans is closely related to M. balbisiana and M. textilis from the family Musaceae.
