Abstract

We present how a surface plasmon lattice can be produced when a laser light such as a Hermite-Gaussian (HG) beam is totally reflected internally at the planar surface of a dielectric on which a thin film has been deposited. It is shown that surface plasmon lattices can offer an unprecedented potential for the nanoscale manipulation of absorbed atoms congregating at regions of extremum light intensity on the surface.
