Abstract

Single crystal of 2-Carboxylatopyridinium p-nitrophenol (2CPN), a novel organic nonlinear optical (NLO) material was grown by a slow evaporation method. Single crystal X-ray diffraction study revealed that 2CPN crystallizes in triclinic system with a space group P\( \overline{1} \). UV-Vis spectral studies showed that 2CPN crystal is transparent in the entire visible region. TG-DTA studies revealed that the grown crystal is thermally stable up to 130 °C. The third order nonlinear parameters such as nonlinear refractive index, nonlinear absorption coefficient and nonlinear optical susceptibility have been determined by Z-scan technique and the material is found to be self-defocusing in nature. The single and multiple shots laser damage threshold were found to be 1.9 and 1.79 GW/cm2 using Nd: YAG laser source. Dielectric study revealed the normal dielectric behavior of 2CPN crystal.
