Abstract

An electrically controlled phase shift can be introduced in a Pockel type of electro-optic crystal beam of its first order non-linear activity. Many schemes of optical phase modulations are already done by exploiting the electro-optic crystal. The phase difference between the two orthogonally polarized light beams can be controlled by externally applied field in it. For a certain external voltage (Vπ voltage) the phase difference between these two orthogonally polarized light beams becomes π. The amount of Vπ for a crystal can be reduced just by cutting an edge of the crystal in a special oblique shape. Here in this paper we like to report that more reduction of Vπ is possible if the both edge of the crystal are cut obliquely. The value of Vπ voltage also depends on the spatially cut angles. This reduction of Vπ voltage can help the optical intensity as well as phase modulation processes.
