Abstract

A litho-structural mapping of the Bipindi-Lolodorf area in South Cameroon was achieved from SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission), gravity, and field investigation. Four SRTM scenes were used to automatically extract lineaments. Processing of gravimetric data was achieved using Geosoft V8.4 software. The horizontal gradient of the Bouguer anomalies permitted to manually extract gravimetric lineaments. SRTM and gravity lineaments present three major trending directions: NE-SW, ENE-WSW, and NNE-SSW; minor directions are also presented (N-S; NW–SE; E-W). Multiple intersecting lineaments may correspond to high prospective potential deposit occurrence. Correlations between lineaments and the alluvial gold index are mostly observed NE-SW trending direction. A major part of the lineaments has a NE-SW trend and may represent an active tectonic event, suggesting the existence of a shear zone of sinistral sense. Primary gold mineralization in the Nkoutou-Assok II area is found in quartz veins and chlorite schists; mineralized quartz veins are orientated N-S and NW–SE, and they may have been put in place during the crustal shortening and extensional regime happening during the eburnean orogeny. Gold-bearing veins are made up of quartz, plagioclase, gold, pyrite, chalcopyrite, and covalite. Disseminated gold, pyrite, chalcopyrite are within the chlorite schist, which constitutes the altered halo around gold-bearing quartz. The primary gold mineralization can be classified as orogenic type in greenschist facies. These results may have an implication for the comprehension of the geodynamic context of the putting in place of the primary gold occurrence and mining exploration.
