Zusammenfassung

Hintergrund

Sport und körperliche Aktivität werden zunehmend als supportive Therapie für Tumorpatienten empfohlen.

Material und Methoden

Diese Arbeit untersucht, welche Langzeiteffekte bei Krebspatienten mit einem körperlich aktiven Lebensstil im Hinblick auf das rezidivfreie Überleben, die tumorspezifische Sterblichkeit und die Gesamtmortalität in Beobachtungsstudien gefunden wurden.

Ergebnisse

Bisher liegen nur Studien für Brustkrebs- und Darmkrebspatienten vor. Diese erlauben eine optimistische Haltung.

Schlussfolgerung

Eine abschließende Beurteilung der Langzeiteffekte ist bei der derzeitigen Datenlage und den zahlreichen offenen Fragen jedoch noch nicht möglich. Hierfür sind weitere gezielte epidemiologische Langzeitevaluationen von Interventionsprogrammen und Beobachtungsstudien nach den Standards von Good Epidemiological Practice erforderlich.

Abstract

Background

Exercise and physical activity are increasingly recommended as supportive therapy for cancer patients.

Material and methods

This article summarizes the evidence from observational studies on the longterm effects for cancer patients with a physically active lifestyle with regard to disease-specific endpoints and total mortality.

Results

Currently, only studies for breast and colorectal cancer patients have been published. The results, however, are a reason for optimism.

Conclusions

A solid statement on the long-term effects of physical activity is not yet possible with the current evidence. Further epidemiologic evaluations of intervention programs and observational studies following the standards of Good Epidemiological Practice are needed.
