Her thesis, Industrialization of Rivers. Studies in Swedish hydropower development, 1900–1918 (in Swedish), was published in 1996. She has been affiliated to the Department of the History of Science and Technology, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. At present she is a senior research scientist at RF- Rogaland Research in Stavanger, Norway. She also serves as the Regional Representative of the Nordic countries in the European Society for Environmental History. Her main interests are water history, water policy and water law.
