Abstract

Somatoform symptoms are found in many cardiological patients. They often lead to extensive diagnostic testing and ineffective therapy. They tend to chronify and require special medical and interactional skills of physicians and psychotherapists. Basic psychosomatic care and psychotherapy provide specific techniques that help to successfully address the patients' underlying psychosocial problems.Drug treatment as an additional option is especially indicated in cases of psychiatric comorbidity.
