Introduction to CFRP-metal hybrids for lightweight structures

Abstract

Intrinsic hybrids present a new approach to join metal and CFRP, to produce multi-material components which utilise the particular advantages of the involved materials. Due to the intrinsic hybridisation, no additional process steps are required and the total weight of the component can be reduced. The present special issue was initiated within the priority programme 1712 of the German Research Foundation and gives a global view of current research activities in the field of lightweight-optimised CFRP-metal hybrids. Various contributions to production technology, material science and mechanics are discussed.
