Zusammenfassung

Der Artikel beschreibt, welche Familienformen es im deutschsprachigen Raum heute gibt und wodurch das Leben der Familien gegenwärtig geprägt ist. Neben der Kernfamilie werden die weiteren quantitativ bedeutungsvollsten Familienformen dargestellt (Ein-Eltern-Familien, Lebensgemeinschaften mit Kindern, transkulturelle Familien). Zudem wird darauf eingegangen, dass neben der biologischen auch die soziale Elternschaft immer bedeutungsvoller wird (z. B. in Stieffamilien, aber auch in Regenbogen- und Inseminationsfamilien). Zuletzt wird thematisiert wie sich die Größe der Familie auf ihr Zusammenleben auswirkt und welche Gender Gaps auch heute noch bestehen.

Abstract

The article describes family forms that exist in the German speaking countries, and what is impacting the lives of families today. Besides the nuclear family, the article introduces other quantitatively relevant family forms such as the single-parent family, the common law marriage with children, and the transcultural family. In addition, it addresses that social parenthood is becoming increasingly important compared to biological parenthood (e.g. in step families, families with gay or lesbian parents, artificial insemination). Finally, the article describes how the size of the family affects their life together, and the gender gaps that still exist today.
