Abstract

A new triterpenoid saponin, named stellatoside A (1), and a known saponin (2), were isolated from cultural plants of the cactus Stenocereus stellatus (Ludwig G. K. Pfeiffer) V. Riccobono. The structure of 1 was determined to be a stellatogenin 3-O-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl(1→4)-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl(1→2)-β-d-glucuronopyranoside by spectroscopic methods. This is the first study to examine the substances of the cultural plants of cacti.
