Abstract
Molybdenum disulphide coatings were deposited on high-speed steel and WC/Co hard alloy substrates by thermal-diffusion synthesis. Ball-on-flat reciprocating tests demonstrated the coating friction coefficient 0.03–0.06 (200°C, air) and 0.1–0.2 (20°C, air). The coatings ensured ~50 longer lifetime of hard alloy cutting tools.
