Abstract

Inquiring traffic information is an important issue in vehicular ad hoc networks. This paper proposes an aggregating data dissemination and discovery algorithm in vehicular ad hoc networks. In general, the user obtains the detailed data of the small area, or only the summary data from the large area. This algorithm can offer various degrees of data aggregation in accordance with different inquiry ranges. The traffic information is aggregated and exchanged between the roadside units. The aggregated data of region are delivered along dissemination trajectories and kept in the periphery of region. The proposed algorithm disseminates the aggregated data in the high level cell effectively. The user can obtain the aggregated data from the periphery of inquiry area immediately. The simulation results show that our algorithm can decrease the inquiry cost and increase the efficiency of data aggregation. Additionally, the users can obtain the data quickly, when they only need the summary data.
