Fragmentation of Grains in Polycrystals. Mesoscopic Description

  • Published:
Russian Physics Journal Aims and scope

A model of grain fragmentation in deforming polycrystals is proposed, in which a solid is treated as an open nonequilibrium system, whose structural relaxation is determined by the processes at a mesoscopic scale level. Using the phase field method, a system of two nonlinear equations is obtained, which describe the structural relaxation of a medium. The dynamics of grain boundary nucleation is discussed.
