Abstract
Reaction of bicyclo[3.3.1]nona-3,7-diene-2,6-dione with nitroform in boiling methanol occurs with involvement of the solvent and results in 2,6-dimethoxy-4,8-bis(trinitromethyl)-bicyclo[3.3.1]nona-2,6-diene, while the reaction in tert-butyl alcohol affords 4,8-bis(trinitromethyl)bicyclo[3.3.1]nona-2,6-dione.
