Abstract
Results for a pilot batch of quartz protecting tubes for steel teeming fabricated by a ceramic castable technology and tested at the Novolipetsk Iron and Steel Works (NLISW) are reported. The average durability of tubes tested was shown to be 5.2 heats (maximum 9), which is 15% higher than that of corundum-graphite protecting tubes available from the Vesuvius JSC. The cost of corundum-graphite tube is 5 times the cost of quartz tubes.
