Summary
Rigorous kinetic analysis is presented for a range of photocatalytic mechanisms based on the steady-state approximation, while typically photochemical kinetics is discussed within the framework of Langmuir-Hinshelwood rate equations, assuming a slow rate-determining step and adsorption/desorption equilibrium. Performed comparison with experimental data reveals additional features inconsistent with adsorption/desorption equilibrium concept.
