Abstract
A rapid field method for the determination of ppm level uranium (U) in rocks, soils and stream sediments fluorimetrically has been developed. By simply eliminating iron, which seriously interferes in the direct determination of U due to quantity quenching, U can be reliably determined in the field with high throughput of analysis. Also, a novel concept of “iron to uranium ratio” has been introduced in the paper to demonstrate the serious negative role of iron in the ppm level determination of U fluorimetrically in silicate rocks and soils as a part of geochemical exploration of U.
