Influence of Sample Dimensions on Errors in Determining the Thermal Diffusivity of Semitransparent Semiconducting Materials by the Laser-Pulse Method

  • Published:
Journal of Engineering Physics and Thermophysics Aims and scope

An analysis has been made of the errors in determining the thermal diffusivity of a typical semiconducting material, i.e., germanium, due to the radiative transfer of energy in the heated layer of the material under the conditions that correspond to the implementation of the laser-pulse method when the material′s surface is exposed to a collimated finite-length laser pulse. The influence of the geometric dimensions of a sample and of the process of radiation absorption on the value of this error has been established.
