Thermal diffusion in binary mixtures of moderately dense gases

  • Published:
Journal of Engineering Physics and Thermophysics Aims and scope

The thermodiffusion separation of six pairs of gases was measured depending on their pressure and concentration at different temperatures by the two-flask method. A comparison of the experimental results with the results of calculations performed using the dimer theory and the thermodynamics of irreversible processes has revealed qualitative and quantitative differences between the experimental and theoretical data. It is shown that the data of calculations performed by the formula obtained within the framework of the elementary kinetic theory agree with the corresponding experimental data within the experimental error.
