Abstract

Crossed-discs of mesoporous silica SBA-15 were synthesized by using tetramethylorthosilicate (TMOS) as silica source in the presence of Sn2+ cations. The silica crossed-discs were characterized by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and nitrogen adsorption. All the results show that the materials have hexagonally ordered channels running parallel to the thickness of the discs. The effects of the reaction conditions on the morphology of the materials were discussed. The SBA-15 crossed-discs were used as hard templatesto obtain their carbon replicas.
